That's the start of a new growth. When it matures it should bloom for you given adequate light and food. Congrats!

So does this mean that it's happy? I really hope so! I've been really concerned about its health. It's root are very different from phals, and it's lost 2 leaves and another is turning yellow now.

Can you post a picture of the whole plant? We might be able to better help you with a pic. Some dendros are deciduous, and some are evergreen.

Which are deciduous and which are evergreen again? My Dedrobium Burana Emerald (I think that is the name) lost all of it's leaves and even after losing all of its leaves it is starting to put out a new growth, unlike the other one I had that lost all of it's leaves. Both were the evergreen kind , or so I thought....I get them all confused!

Becca, Burana Emerald is a phal type and is not deciduous, so there must have been something else going on with it. I have noticed that dendros like to express their displeasure with their growing conditions by dropping leaves like crazy. Any little change can set off this reaction. I have found that once they settle down and adjust they send up new growth and all is well. Either that or they croak!

It's a den. thongchai gold. I ordered it on ebay in august. Its roots looked good from what I could tell, but I don't really know what dendro's roots should look like
I went camping and it was right in the window and the two leaves that were facing the window on the younger stem had turned yellow when I got back... they fell off a few days later. That was labour day weekend, now another leaf is turning yellow.

From what I can see in the picture the leaves are dropping off the smaller of the two canes? If so, the smaller one is probably the older of the two. As the plant ages and kicks out new growth often the older canes will drop their leaves around the same time. Leave the old cane there as the plant will continue to draw energy from it.

New growth is always a good thing and usually means the plant is happy. Good job! BTW, your plant appears to be a phal type so is evergreen, needs intermediate temps and no winter rest.
