Default Spring trading! :D

Hey everybody! Anybody want to trade orchids?! It’s a fun, easy, and cheap way to collect more orchids and expand your expertise ;-). It’s spring and it’s time to repot, divide, and get some new orchids!

I have recently traded with two new friends and came away with 10 plants from each of them for only the cost of shipping! These plants bought from a vendor would have gone for up to $200 and it only cost me $9.50!

Make a list of orchids that you have extra of or are overflowing their pot/mount. Put up your list on this forum and maybe somebody will see something they like and want to trade. It’s a great way to make friends. I would be interested in mainly species orchids. My list:

(All Epidendrum plants are very healthy keiki’s growing from a huge mother plant with lots of roots and growing tips. Some are in flower/spike now!)

-Barkeria lindleyana, almost full grown keiki (lots of roots and looks like flower spike coming.)
-Epidendrum radicans (bright orange yellow lip)
-Epidendrum radicans (orange)
-Epidendrum secundum (purple)
-Epidendrum radicans (yellow)
-Epidendrum ibaguense (red)
-Epidendrum ellipticum (white)
-Dendrobium Nagasaki (healthy keiki, 6 3” roots)
-Dendrobium kingianum 2 varieties
-Oncidium flexuosum “dancing lady orchid”
-Vanilla planifolia orchid cuttings (plant is pushing roots like theres no tomorrow!)
-Maxillaria tenuifolia
-Maxillaria minuta (20 growth miniature)
-Tillandsia (air plants, not orchids) Bright flowers!! noids
-Spanish moss
-Cymbidium backbulbs/divisions (many colors, light purple, white, dark purple, yellow)

-Asclepia tuberosa SEEDS (Butterfly milkweed plant) Lots of dark orange flowers that attract native butterflies like the Monarch. My plant is making tons of seeds and are just flying all over the place so might as well put them to some use. NOT AN ORCHID

-Strawberry plants.. Full grown throwing runners everywhere around my planter so i'm either tossing them or trading/giving them away lol.

-Kalancho succulent. Aka Mother of Millions. Grows like a frigg#n weed and am pulling them up from everywhere. Has an amazing flower display when they do flower though so they are pretty cool besides making hundreds of offshoots that fall off and root everywhere.

If anything interests you then send me a message and we will try and get a trade going!! Best thing is.. Everybody wins!
Species only for me please!

I know its not a fascinating list but there are some fun things i think

-Ben

Right now I have some Haraella retrocalla keikis, and a couple very small Den kingianum keikis (tipo - both keikis have two small canes, and have bloomed previously on the parent, but I see much larger keikis on the parent now, but waiting for more root growth).

As I'm repotting, and see what I might be dividing (I'm a reluctant divider lol, tho I don't mind taking off a piece if someone specifically wants one)

Oh cool. I go up there often to see my friend Carl. We are both photographers and we built a darkroom/studio up there last year. He's in The Alameda Artworks in SJ. Look up Carl Couchman, photographer on the net. I think you'll like his work. Maybe when I come up we could have coffee and talk orchids. Any time you're down here please let me know.

Great idea! I hope we could have something like this as a seasonal thread--like we do the project plants!

Being new to the hobby I don't have anything to trade currently, but I can see myself participating in something like this in the future.
