What to do with " Turkey Neck" Vanda

Members .... What can I do to get rid of the long bottom stem..... No roots coming out from higher....

Thoughts...... Suggestions ?

I have a couple with giraffe necks lol I waited , they did in time start roots in the bare areas some have enough that I can cut the bottom off . I sealed the cut with vasaline . But! be sure there are enough roots before doing it

everyone hear says to use seaweed extract, i just got mine in the mail today hahah. you could probably spray it with diluted molasses, or banana powder.

Let us know if it works. I can't try that it in the greenhouse ,don't want fat ants

I've always gone by the rule that you want 3-5 roots on the plant before cutting off the bottom. There are many products that can encourage the plant to grow more roots. I prefer Maxicrop Liquid Seaweed but Ray sells KELPAK that he says is even better. KLN and Orchid Champion also encourage new roots.

I dont know what is bothering you. I would leave it alone. The roots are just fantastic and its in spike. Vandas lose bottom leaves...aesthetically I dont think its ugly...in fact its like a palm tree from afar not a turkey

Thanks Bud....I don't believe I said it is ugly.....and am really not bothered.....

it's rather unstable and wants to fall over....wanted some more informed opinions of what others did with their plants in the same condition

Just take a twisty tie or any small wire and anchor the upper part of the plant to one of the basket wires. I have a Vanda TMA var red that has about 16 inches of bare stem. It was given to me that way, and I am waiting for enough upper roots so I can cut the bottom off. It is most definitely tied to one of the wires at the top, or it would fall right over!

Oh...sorry: I thought you wanted to cut it in two when the roots appear on the upper part...
Just tie it on one of the wires to be more stable and your grow zone really provide humidity in your atmosphere but you still have to water it everyday because it is bareroot in a basket...
It took me years to grow magnificent root system like yours...and its such a waste if you cut it.
I cant wait to see the pictures of the blooms on this vanda.
I have a couple of vandas in spike so I guess 2 to 3 months until I see any blooms open
