Default Just for fun, what is the focus of your orchid collection?

I have focused mainly on fragrance with my catt hybrids (still waiting for my blooms, bought as seedlings 2-3 years from blooming...sigh)

My phals I try to make everyone a different color or pattern they are all blooming sized and with these I don't care if they are noids (all other orchids are named, why, I don't know I just do it that way.)

Then my second focus is on floriferousness (is that a word?) I want plenty of blooms to enjoy. You can have your one flower wonders, I pass those up without a second glance.

Paphs excluded. I like those blooms enough that I will settle for just one flower.

They all have to grow in semi-hydro and settle for a once or twice weekly watering. Nothing fussy or demanding allowed in my collection

They all have to do with city water and a south-west window supplemented with a two bulb fluorescent fixture.

So there you have it. My collection in a nutshell. How does your collection work?

I am new enough at this to not have a focus. I have a pastiche of different types of orchids
If I HAD to focus, it would be vandaceous.

OOOOH Vanda's! I love, love, love vanda's. Alas, I don't think my light is sufficient to get them to bloom. I can only dream...Post a picture if you like so I can live vicariously through you....

my focus is mainly on phalaenopsis because i am starting to breed them.

so the main thing would be breeding potential, that includes vigour, color, parentage, ploidy, etc.. and of course, it has to look good!

I just love phallies! They grow and bloom reliably in my conditions. They really are beautiful. Good luck in your breeding. Are you going for spots, stripes or what?

Cattleyas were my first love. I like the big showy colorful flowers. I have some phals and paphs in my collection too. Lately I have been looking for some more unusual plants like restrepias and bulbophyllums, now that I have a terrerium. They all need to tolerate warm temperatures since I grow exclusively indoors and my house doesn't go below 65 F.

My main focus also is with the Phals, and I too am interested in breeding with them, more so focusing on the novelties and multiflorals. My goals are also broad, and I plan on making many hybrids, with my only specific goal being to keep good form, as I detest a strong back curve of the petals and dorsal sepal, and I would actually prefer cupped flowers over bent back ones. Bright and unique colours and patterns are a goal, with fragrance being up there, too. I hope my fellow Canadian members are interested in my crosses, as I would like to have as large of a number of seedlings possible grown out so I can see the diversity of each cross!

Frangrance and/or frequent blooming with frangrance being the main focus. I try to love others but, sadly, I usually tire of them and give them away.

I too am a novelty phal hobbyist. I have a couple other things as well (mainly psychopsis). I have a preference for primary hybrids and fragrant novelties. I won't give up my planned breeding program, but one of my goals is to maintain fragrance with each cross.
