Phal. gigantea X equestris - what to expect? Male
Default Phal. gigantea X equestris - what to expect?

I'm tempted by this cross: Phal. gigantea X Phal. equestris, but space is already an issue in my appartment. Does anybody know whether this cross takes after gigantea in terms of leaf size? I definitely don't have the space for a Phal. with 20'/50cm leaves.

It will probably either have very large leaves or very small leaves, or something in between. Lol, ok I know you know that. But I do think if you cross anything your space issue will be more in jeopardy from the hundreds or thousands of plants you produce from one seed pod. I guess you can give away all but 1 or 2?

I didn't mean crossing them myself, just buying one (it's available here in Europe).

Oooohhh, wow I should have read your post more carefully lol! I have orchid breeding on the brain, so I guess I'm projecting... That said, you could try contacting the vendor and see if they can answer your question.

This hybrid was registered in 1977 as Phal. Bernice Maskin. Google it and you will find a couple of photos of the flowers, but not the plant.
