The little scared cat that I am just went overboard and treated all her plants with a fungicide, insecticide and miticide by spraying the leaves. You can bet next time I am watering some goes into the water! I hate bugs!
Yup I just read the link, the whole link...

This is actually very interesting! Thank you very much!

On another note, cornu-cervi just lost one leaf today. Or was it yesterday? It gets so confusing when you work night-shift... Any way. I think she would lose the second one soon...

It looks suspiciously like it has a bacterial infection. I wouldn't put it in anything. If that is an old flower spike, cut it off. If it is a new flower spike, definately cut it off. Get it out of the spag and if you want to put it in a media right away, chose one that is dry. Course bark for now or even medium grade but don't water it a lot. Remember that phals grow on top of tree branches in nature and don't have any media at all. There is a gentleman in the San Diego Orchid society who wires phals on their sides into slat baskets hanging on their sides without any media and just waters them daily in warm season and sparringly when cool. No media at all like vandas and they grow wonderfully. The plants are on their sides and so no water sits in the crown to cause any rot. But as far as I can tell from the picture, your phal has either a bacterial infection or a fungus. It can recover but it needs to be warm and dry. Just mist the roots daily and keep it arround 70-75 degrees. It will recover.

The plant is out of the sphag and in a mix of hydroton and charcoal. The humidity in the house has been known to go down to 15% in winter when the electric heater has run a full course for the day. No media at all means death to most orchids here. It also means nose bleeds to sensible humans.
Cornu-cervi was treated for any bacterial and/or fungal and/or insect infestation. As for the old spike I am definitively not cutting. First because it is still a water resource for the orchid if in dire need. And because it looks as if it is putting out a keiki from it. My camera is not good enough to show it clearly but it is pointy but not mitten like. If she put up enough energy to make I keiki I doubt she will have enough, even if I cut the spike now to make anything else.
What ever happen as long as the roots stays green when I water I will give it a fighting chance! Water when dry and a tray with rocks to up the humidity surrounding it.
Thank you for your input though!
