The plant is out of the sphag and in a mix of hydroton and charcoal. The humidity in the house has been known to go down to 15% in winter when the electric heater has run a full course for the day. No media at all means death to most orchids here. It also means nose bleeds to sensible humans.
Cornu-cervi was treated for any bacterial and/or fungal and/or insect infestation. As for the old spike I am definitively not cutting. First because it is still a water resource for the orchid if in dire need. And because it looks as if it is putting out a keiki from it. My camera is not good enough to show it clearly but it is pointy but not mitten like. If she put up enough energy to make I keiki I doubt she will have enough, even if I cut the spike now to make anything else.
What ever happen as long as the roots stays green when I water I will give it a fighting chance! Water when dry and a tray with rocks to up the humidity surrounding it.
Thank you for your input though!
