Those leaves look a lot like that Phal disease that is going around. Good thing it is isolated. It is contagious as ever if that's what it has. There are articles on it and no-one seems to have given it a name for sure. It spreads like wildfire to other Phals and from my own experience stress could bring it on, but it would have been carrying the virus or bacteria already. I have lost a number of Phals to it. I just recently posted a new thread on here because I read an article in the Vancouver orchid society newsletter about a possible solution to it. Physan is a similar treatment but I can't find it here in Canada. Not sure how you have some! http://www.orchidboard.com/community...tml#post484850 Here is the link to my thread. In my first post in there is the link to the article about it. Hopefully it's something else but be very careful until you determine what it is in case its contagious.

I am also expecting the leaves to die. And I don't know about a basal growth, but the second nodule of the spike is brewing something. I am hoping for a keiki. At the rate it's going it might be for the best.
The black spot is not rot. It is dry and firm. Looks more like a burn to me, burn from what, I can't be sure.
As for physan, my roommate had it shipped from the USA. I can try to convince her to find the website again if you want it. As for the sickness I don't know. In the same bag there was another phal which is perfectly healthy.
Only time will tell I think.

If I was you, I might be tempted to treat the healthy one with Physan as well just as a precaution. If your roommate can find the website easily I'd be interested. In the meantime I did just buy some of this KleenGrow which seems similar so hopefully I finally have something for an emergency and I am trying it on the one sick Phal I currently have. I have thrown out about 5 Phals with the disease in order to stop the spread, but that was over a year ago. Recently I have tossed another and now I still have 1 more that I am using as a test subject to treat with the KleenGrow product.

Will ask for you then!
I think I'll spray them all with a diluted solution of physan just in case. That sickness you speak of, does it affect other types of orchids?

Thanks.
Only Phals have been affected, but I suspect if other orchids are in close proximity, they may carry the 'bacteria' and pass it to other Phals that are nearby. Information on this problem says thorough sanitizing of the entire area must be done to prevent further contamination. I don't know, hopefully yours has a different problem, but use caution with it.

It is isolated but it did sat near my other orchids for a few hours.... So I am now keeping watch on all of them! Thank you for the link Paphman!
And I know! The only way I manage to stock up is at shows and sometimes at meetings... Yet they never have everything I need! Otherwise it's from ordering from the USA! Why oh why? (Yes I do have a theatrical side...)
