Need advice on some new orchids
Default Need advice on some new orchids

I have been busy going to shows and made a few unexpected purchases. My two older daughters found the ascocentrums (ascocentrum ampullaceum and ascocentrum pumilum) intriguing and wanted to get them. As I understand it, I only need to care for them until they have their own homes. I have found conflicting advice on how to grow them so I would love to know how others are growing them. The larger one is in a net pot, the smaller is mounted with moss.
As for the Den x delicatum album, I wondered about lighting, watering, rest period(?), and temps. It just went out of bloom but I don't yet see new growth.
The vendor said to treat the podangis dactyloceras as an angraecum and what I have read says these do well in vanda baskets with lava rock. What size basket should I get? It is mounted right now. How wet/dry do these like to be? They are so small and have such fine roots....
Last is the zygolum louisendorf. Is this grown just as a
zygopetelum? I thought the tag was a mispelling. Opps.
Thankyou to anyone who can help.

Try looking for the culture of your plants at the Baker's site.
If its mounted and pretty much established; I suggest you do not mess with the delicate roots to repot it in a vanda basket with lava rocks...the principle is the same. If it is mounted, then go generous in watering them...

Zygolum is a cross of Zygosepalum and Zygopetalum...
in this case: follow the Zygopetalum culture.

Okay. One is a cool grower. When it gets hot, I was thinking of hanging it near/above the tub water garden to keep it cooler (88'F+, I add ice to the pond for the goldfish). It would be shaded by a plant that will soon grow to hang over the pond. Would this work? Or, should I find it a vacation home with an air-condition/basement-lights OS member?

relax...you are in Ohio...how hot do you think youll get this summer...a day of 105F?
if it is indoors and you planned to hang it near a cool water garden...it will be fine...in winter place it near a window (it will be 10 degrees cooler near the glass)
