sorry I don't agree, with pulling it out, the containers looked fine to me and I have a gower ramsey. It is in bloom right now. I also have 8 or so other various onc. 'types'. I am doing a rescue right now and it looks waaayy worse than yours. Pot it up, mist it and leave it. If you keep disrupting it, it will never grow anything. Not everyone can put their orchids in nets or mount them. Different areas of the world peeps have different things that work for them. Goodluck!

Cheryl

Will post my rescue as I see progress, so you can see how well they can do

Thanks, Cheryl!

I don't have any teak baskets or lava laying around, so I hadn't gotten around to re-potting it. I did knock a little bark off the top, and exposed the roots a bit to monitor them. Shouldn't hurt, right?

I picked a spot for it outside and won't move it at all from now on. It seems the general consensus about oncidiums is 'Do Not Disturb'. I will try my hardest!

Thanks for sharing a photo of where they grow. I had a large one I put aside to give away and forgot about it for a couple of months...no water, poor lighting. Nothing grew but nothing shriveled, either. Your picture and description sort of explains the orchid's survival.

Orchid623 it's so hard not to touch them.....guilty here lol. Now it the best time to get some growth as yours has finished blooming. It should start growing from one of the eyes at the base of the last blooming pbulb. You won't get any new roots til that starts happening, just watch not to over-water and you should be fine, if you find top is really dry just mist the top of the mix. It really doesn't look too bad, I think you've got more than a fighting chance with that one. Again goodluck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

Also taking some mix away won't hurt, just make sure that the orchid is secure in it's pot, not wobbling around or roots will not grow. The tips will keep breaking off. Put a stick down into mix and secure the plant with it if you have to
