I was repotting a rescued phal and accidently nicked the tip of either a root or a spike. I am thinking it was the latter because it's so narrow. I had no idea it was there otherwise I would have been more careful. Anyway, my question is will it continue to grow or die off? I was really looking forward to see what color the blossom would be.
There was another set of posts recently that suggest it will respike right beside the one you damaged very quickly. Don't despair you may yet see flowers.
If the plant is strong and healthy enough, they can start a new spike a few weeks (sometimes a month) later, either right next to it, or at the next leaf. It really depends on the phals too.
If it was a root, well the plant will just grow a new one.

I would like to read any of those threads. Could you direct me to them?
Orchids are survivors. If it was a spike and the plant really wants to bloom it will send out another spike. Only time will tell. If it was a root, it will grow another root. Good luck.
I was really hoping somebody would say, don't worry, it'll continue on growing. lol. So do I cut the new growth off or wait and see? I have not been in this situation before. I would like to know what happens from here.
I would just leave it and wait. Since many spikes send out a second shoot from the original, it may do that as well. Just continue on caring for your plant and it will bloom one way or another if it wants to. I saw that other post but not sure what it was called. basically the same content as this one and the same answers
Be sure to show us pics when it blooms.
