@Goodgollymissmolly- I have no idea what is going on as I have not seen that other thread. But regardless of what is going on and who is right or wrong, please keep things civil. Such strong language doesn't belong here. OB has always been a friendly place, let's keep it that way.
And this reminder goes for everyone.

Mutant...you are very clear and very informative thank you...your command of the English language seems to better than mine because you were not rambling at all and didnt get personal comments.
MissMolly do not be personal...and I didnt mean to begrudge your being a judge and still didnt get the title...I didnt know that and I dont know about judging I made that clear from the start...I said I was ignorant thats why its your duty to enlighten me since you are aspiring to be a judge yourself...
And I was never thrown out of any forum ...in fact I demanded to be taken out of their membership and asked that all my postings be stricken out...yet they never took out any of my threads, my name is still in the roster = so how was I thrown out??!!...maybe my pictures and comments seem to be important for them...
Miss Molly you still have to enlighten me: because you instead reprimanded me...instead of informing me...where is the info? what, where, when and why about being a judge of any orchid show...
you must know important facts because you have spent years of your life wanting to be a judge!
...I am not doing a tirade...I am in need of information
It is up to you now if you want to share with us...or continue to reprimand me

Oh btw...MissMolly, you have already 3 infactions against you for being a trouble maker...dont make a 4th coming from Camille, heh

Bud, the purpose of AOS judging is to formally recognize outstanding plants and growers. Judges are volunteers who spend a minimum of 6 years as a trainee before becoming fully accredited. If you seriously want to know about AOS judging in detail, I suggest you refer to the AOS Handbook on Judging and Exhibition here: http://www.aos.org/images/img_conten...-June_2011.pdf
Not scintillating prose, but should answer your questions.

Hi Bud, basically judges do devote their lives to judging. Time to sign up. It takes between 6 to 8 years to become a judge (they can cut you from the program at any time while you are a student) and to be a good judge you need to do the study equivalent of a doctoral dissertation. You are expected to go to monthly judging at the AOS center near (or not so near) you. This session is divided into several hours of talks in the morning and then judging in the afternoon. As a student, you are expected to give talks as well as do all the work presenting the orchids that are being judged. That entails measuring and counting flowers, researching them against previous award winners and speaking coherently whether they should be judged or not. If they do win an award, you get to write the official AOS description.
In addition, you are expected to judge at all the shows in your area and beyond. For example, the judges at the Northeast Judging Center in MA are expected to judge shows in NH, Cape Cod, Boylston MA, two shows in CT and it is highly recommended to judge at shows in NY, NJ and even PA. And, this is as a student judge.
Lots of traveling. Lots of studying to become a judge and lots of continued studying after to keep current and be a good judge.
I hope this helps.
P.S. I am not a judge.
