My plant is double potted because I couldn't figure out a safe way of removing it from the original terracotta pot.

Hi Junebug! I am curious about your "double potted" pot. Do you just slip old pot into bigger one and fill leftover space with medium? What medium do you use? I have a feeling my bark doesn't stay moist enough in my house.

Yes, about double potting. I allowed about 2" space all the way around between the edges of the old and new pots. I did the pot in a pot repot after discovering that the first pot was root bound. Afterwards I directed any new base roots into the space between the pots. Roots growing further up the vine found their own way into the space within a few months, some of them growing over 2' in length. My Vanilla medium is African Violet mix, with river rocks in the bottom for drainage and stability. Recently I added dried oak leaves to the surface of the pots. In a Vanilla's natural environment the roots near the base grow in leaf litter.

Junebug, thanks for the info, this helps a lot. Especially what I will need to do once the plant gets bigger.
