Woo Hoo! New leaf! Male
Default Woo Hoo! New leaf!

One of my NoID Phals is pushing out a new leaf! This one has been through a lot. It was double potted at first, the other died rather fast, about 3 weeks after I bought it, and this one has hung on. I honestly dont even remember what the flowers look like but Im 100% sure I will get to see them next blooming cycle.

Sorry, just had to pat myself on the back a little bit. This board has a ton of information for keeping an orchid alive and thriving and I feel you guys need a pat as well!

Good job ! you must be giving it the correct light, warmth and humidity...its strange for Phals to grow leaves this time of year...they usually get ready to spike or currently in bloom...but I guess your plant needs to establish roots and leaves to get energy to burst into flower next season...

Yea, it wasnt in the best of shape root wise but the other one with worse roots is pushing out a new leaf AND a keiki.

I figured it wasnt going to spike because it was in such rough shape so a leaf is a great bonus. Hopefully it can put on another and give me a good show next season.

Whats really funny is I looked in the crown two days ago and said, "Man, you better start growing a leaf or a spike here soon little buddy" and this is my reward.

Its tiny but its in there.

It's not all that unusual for them to be starting a vegetative growth cycle this time of year. I have several that are currently growing spikes, flowering, growing roots and new leaves all at once.

Yay! I know how exciting the little things can be, especially with a plant you had trouble with

Yay for leaves!!!
Bud, it's actually not unusual at all for Phals to put out leaves year round. Maybe in the habitat, but in constant growing conditions vegetative growth seems to happen whenever, even simultaneously with blooms. The leaves just grow more slowly than in the summer months.

I just started using a heat mat so day time temps have been making it to 76-78 and night time have been around 62-64. I'm assuming that, lighting and a little bit of ST have helped a ton.
