Root or spike on my phal kunstleri seedling
I am puzzled because it doesn't look lke either root or spike. What do you guys think?
I bought it from Clouds last fall as medium seedling and it didn't grow anything since then. I guess it is still a seedling and cannot be spiking yet, right?
Here are the pics:
Thanks.

Thats either a small plant or a really large pet paw. lol
I wouldnt think its a root but I'd wait for more knowledgeable people to answer in.

Hahaha. Both - the pot is only 2 1/2 inch and that paw belongs to our german pointer, she is a big girl. She likes to sniff orchids when I fuss around them.
I wish it was a spike. One of the readers on my blog thinks it is a root though.

Its just a weird spot for a root honestly. I have quite a few coming from the one I used ST on and none are in the leaf joints. They are just on the side of the plant.
You might know in a few days.

Looks like a root to me, and I've had a handful of Phals (all species or primary hybrids) make roots from the same spot as yours.

Well from that spote I have seen roots, spikes and Keikis on a phal. But from the rounded look of it and the colouring I think it may end up being a root. Can't wait to see what it turns out to be..we should be taking bets!LOL!

I would say that it's a root, as the end is quite rounded.

My guess is a root and like Camille, I've seen them from exactly that spot - usually a flower spike is more pointed and looks like it's coming out from a tiny split it's made in the area.

Thanks everyone!
Well, I'll take the root, still better than nothing .
It makes sense because plant is too young for spike.
