As far as humidity, you can usually get a small room sized humidifier for cheapish that will work better than the humidity trays. Of course if you just have a few, it's not worth the investment but after 5 or so, it might be.

As far as most box stores you can actually talk them down on prices on orchids. I usually walk out with them at no less than 50% off. It doesn't hurt to ask, you might be surprised at what they say. Plus, make friends with the garden manager.

Oh okay I didn't know they were dyed but makes sense that they would do that for the visual appeal to sell more.
The bamboo is working great I figured you could get a rough idea by touching the medium but the skewers prove that wrong for sure.

Haha well if I end up buying any more I will take my Dad with me he is a master haggler!

Sounds like your orchid will be very happy now! I think I have saved a lot of my orchids by using skewers in every pot!
