If they don't have bark or any other good medium, see if they have untreated cedar shingles and mount the phal by tying it onto the shingle with a little fishing line or nylon stockings. You can reuse some of the moss for now on the mount or be creative and find something that will hold moisture but allow airflow. Lava rock can also be used as a medium in a pot but the orchid must be staked very well until well-established so there is no movement against the rock that would harm the roots. I, too, live in an area where there isn't a good quality of bark or moss closeby so all my orchids are mounted, in rock, or using a very cheap grade of moss. Good luck,
Leafmite

I managed to find a Western fir bark mix and repotted all my Phals. The one potted in the the Miracle gro mix was doing terribly. But I think that this new medium will be do fine. And on the subject of mounting I was interested but not sure how one would go about mounting a Phal.

Mine is doing the same thing - turning yellow/brownish and the blooms have fallen off one stem. Is it possible that it is not getting enough sun?
