Default Is this "bud blast" on my phal?????
Hi eveyone,
I am new to orchids. I have about 10 in our bathroom, most are phals. I bought most of them from grocery stores in the markdown bin after they drop their flowers. I like trying to recue ugly plants. This is my first one about to bloom (I hope). These 2 buds are about 6 weeks old I guess. They are about the size of an almond in the shell. They have some dark purple areas. They have been the same size for the last several weeks. Is this bud blast? I have not changed any care routine in the last several months. What should I do to get it to finish blooming?

The bud looks lovely & showing no signs of 'blast'. Just be patient.It looks like one of my phals yellow with red dots. I remember thinking the same thing as you when it first spiked

Like Nenella ays, it looks fine. Buds can grow painfully slow sometimes, but yours are not blasting. Looks like it will be some sort of red and yellow harlequin type.

Blasting buds look a bit different. They get a bit soft, then start to yellow entirely, pedoncule too. Don't move the plant around before the blooms open, you'll keep the risk of blasting very low.

Whew. Thanks for the help. I can sleep now. I'll take some pics of my firstborn and post them.



I like Jr. Samples. Thats where the BR549 came from. My kinda guy.

Hee Haw was a funny show. BR549 is also the name of a country band who reached their zenith in the late 1990's.

Here it is!!! My first born. This is my first flower. I promised to post a pic so here it is. It is now about a week old.
