Phalaenopsis with small flower?

Hi guys,

My mum bought a phalaenopsis about a month ago..when she bought it, it already had two spikes on it..

the spikes grow pretty good, but the flower buds just began to bloom yesterday; which made me surprised because the buds are still quite small
is there something wrong with this phal?
or it is quite common for phalaenopsis to have such small flower, especially for certain species?

the diameter of the buds has not even reached half inch yet.. take a look.

It looks more like a Dendrobium.
Regroup on the picture. The plant is just as important than the flower to seek an ID.

There are many phals that have small flowers. Even some of the phals with tall spikes can have small flowers. I have P. Stuartiana which has tall spikes and the flowers are only one inch across.

I have a few Phals that only have short spikes and flowers that are less than 1/2 and inch in full bloom

Different Phals have different size flowers, and it can be quite normal for some hybrids/species to have small flowers. It's likely to be a hybrid rather than a species as most you buy are, unless your Mum specifically bought a species from a nursary.

That having been said, I can't tell from the pic if it's actually a Phal or a Dendrobium. Phals have very round buds and in the pic some of those look more elongated which is more like a Dendrobium. A clearer/larger picture would help.

It's definitely a Dendrobium and not a Phal. You can tell because the lateral sepals are fused. That's what makes that little pointy "hook" on the buds . Flower size on Dens are typically a lot smaller that the big round Phal blooms.

yeah, sorry cause i dont have a good camera to take a shot.. hehe

but it is phalaenopsis , i can tell from the broad leaves n no pseudobulb.. just a crown of leaves

it is mounted to a tree, so its rather hard for me to take a clear shot.
ill try to give some better pics later when it reaches full bloom
