Paph sheath dead or on track? Male
Default Paph sheath dead or on track?

Hi all,
I've had a paph in sheath for several months, the sheath was green and colored similar to the leaves until recently. About a well ago I noticed that it turned brown and looks kind of like a dead leaf. I can still feel a lump at the base that I'm pretty sure is, or was the spike.

My question is has the spike died, or is this normal for the sheath to shrivel up like this. Lastly, of this is normal, should I cut the sheath open or just let it do it's thing for now? The plants is a paph Lucky Bells. I did transition the plants to semi hydro about a month and a half ago if that makes any difference.

I bought the plant in sheath in september and I've been waiting on it's to flower since then. I waa informed that this one is particularly slow in flowering, so of this oss normal then I'll stay patient amd keep hoping, but if it's dead then I want to move on.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

I agree. Looks dead to me too. It may have gotten too dry at some point during development. I'm guessing the shock of transitioning to S/H did it in.

That's what I was afraid of. I don't think it was the s/h, I went away over the holidays and I think it got a little dry by the end of the trip.

Oh well, at least I know now...

My thoughts are the same as above. Unfortunately it will likely not bloom (this time around).
