Default Catts from lowes got sheaths

I got some catts in the bag from Lowes last Jan. and posted on here how long it would take them to bloom. Got mixed, but good answers. Well, they are doing just great so far. They have so many roots, and they are growing out of the holes in the sides and even the bottom of the pots. Also four of the 7 have sheaths. No telling if they will bloom, but I am hopeful that they might. I put them in the smallest clay orchid pots with the slits on the sides and large bark. And they are in a southwest window getting as much light as they can get here in the east. Days are short. I am thrilled.

It sounds like they're doing great. I'm sure they'll bloom for you when the time is right. Good growing.

Thank you, I started like most people with a phal. Wonder how many others start that way? And I saw the Catts and fell in love. I thought to get some cheap ones and see if I could do anything with them. I am so thrilled with them. I know they are just noids, but now I think I could get some really nice ones and they will live. Got to start somewhere, right?

Given the prevalence of phals almost everywhere, I'd imagine it's a pretty significant number of orchid-growers who didn't get their start through gifts from orchid-nuts, from a show or from growing up with them! That said, my mum's first orchid was a Dendrobium kingianum, but that's because she got it at an orchid show!

My first orchid was a phal.

That might be a good thread. What was your first orchid? I am putting my money on the phals. which, by the way, I personally think are one of the hardest given that they are usually in bad shape root wise when we get them. what do you think?

Great growing on your catts! Enjoy watching the sheaths reveal their treasures. I like the first orchid question. Yes mine was a Phal that I killed.

I bought 4 @ lowes in oct. and with the exception of one they to seem to be acclimating well and producing roots, one in particular. I still have no idea how long I will have to wait for blooms. I'm pretty much an orchid newbie but I jumped in with both feet and have 12 plants. Got my hands full. I'd like to know when yours bloom.
