I figure I will try it and see how it goes. But, If I can get a vanda to grow in S/H, I dont see why you couldnt do the same in your state.

When I go on Fri I will look for a princess mikasa sapphire.

If I get home early enough today, and if my daughter isnt still cutting teeth, Ill take some pics (and get some sleep).

Ok, here are some pics (there are a few more in my gallery, Ferret's Orchids 8/07).

The first pic is of two of the three Mtssa Dark Star. The second pic has the no name second from the right and one of the Mtssa Dark Star third from the right. The last pic is of both of the Brassia Rex.

I was watering these on Sat and noticed small pointy green shoots sprouting in an upward direction coming from the base of the pseudobulbs. This seemed interesting so I took a look at my other Brassia that has been in "ICU" for about 6 weeks and the same growths are happening to it plus new roots are coming out the bottom. I am assuming that this is new growth.

If these are new growths, will all of them grow into new pseudobulbs? If so these orchids are going to get big in the next year.

Yep! That's the deal, Dave. With these guys, little green shoots at the base of last year's pseudobulbs = new growths. I'va had some break into spike long before the actual pseudobulb forms. I've had others wait till the pseudobulb matures before the spike comes out. The common denomenator will be that the spike will come up from inside the outermost leaves - between these leaves and the pseudobulb (if present).
