I experimented with it and ended up with a mold problem. Many other folks in my area had the same results...but I have spoken to folks in other, less humid areas and they say they've had success with it.
If you're not sure, with how expensive it is...I'd see if there was another friend or two that would like to split the cost of a bag so you can experiment with it prior to investing too much into it.
Its not that humid in PA. I have used up a bag already and was thinking of trying the seedling mix from some of my cool growers. How bad was the mold problem?
Bad enough for me to repot whatever I had in it immediately
As I said before, there are lots of folks who say they've had good results...and the difference between your humidity levels and mine may be what makes it work for you
I have used Aussie Gold for a few years in most of my pots, I have not had the mold problems like others have had, but my RH on average is around 50%, I have grown mostly Phal's up until finding this board, I have now branched out and am trying many new species and growing media, yes Aussie Gold is more expensive then most media but it does not break down like the bark and can be reused. The only side effect that I have had is the growing of algae on the surface, I have used the seedling mix for my African violets but not for any orchids, it works great for African violets.
