Terri is right, it's not a pure atroviolaceum, I have one. It looks almost like a primary hybrid between spectabile AND atroviolaceum.

Nice pics! I visited the USBG during the summer and loved it. Though the orchid section was always too crowded for me to stay long.

I believe it's Paph. 'Milmoore'. I work a couple of blocks from there so I'll try to swing by at lunch this week and verify that.

I think the Den is alexanderae. I don't visualize the botanic garden as housing hybrids. But I admit that I don't know that for sure.

Kew gardens (the home of the RHS) has hybrids in their orchid displays. Of course I have no idea about the one in DC but these sorts of places do have them.

Just fyi, they definitely have hybrids. Most of their orchids are hybrids, though they do have a significant collection of species as well.
