Phals not spiking? Male
Default Phals not spiking?

Hi All -- I have a few NOID Phals that I purchased in bloom last January (2011) and December (2010). The plants bloomed normally and have been growing new leaves and roots continuously throughout the year after the blooms were spent.

I wondered why they have not yet bloomed again -- so , I decided to place them in a cooler location (at night only) for about a week -- but nothing is happening.

Am I doing something incorrectly that they would not have spiked again (being it has been over a year)? Is placing them in a cooler location at night a good idea, or no?

Thanks all,
Jared

Keep them cooler at night, some of these require a difference of at least 15F to initiate spiking. I'd recommend 3 weeks with the cooler nights. Good luck !

Cooler temps is only one factor. You can also lower the amount of Nitrogen they are getting, but I'd guess lighting may play a role? Could we get a picture of the leaves? If you see them as a dark green, they may be getting deficient light. It may also not be the correct season. They could have been forced to bloom by the grower. Tough really to say as it's only been a year since purchase. Dont know if the above helps though

Since your phals are growing roots and leaves I think you're giving them good care. They'll bloom when they're ready to. Even though cooler temperatures can induce blooming, I've had plenty of phals bloom without cooler weather. Just be patient.

You're on their timeline, they're not on yours . I agree with Tucker completely - sounds like the phals are growing well and they'll spike when they're good and ready. The nighttime temp. drop can't hurt so long as the temp. doesn't go too low, but it won't do the trick if the phals aren't ready to bloom.

I have certain phals that will skip a blooming cycle despite lower temps and continue producing leaves if they don't get enough sun during the prior growing cycle. You should check the light intensity where you grow your phals and increase the light if appropriate.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all...Yeah -- I am going to go with the patience route and see what happens. They are definitely happy, healthy plants for sure!
