Is it a possibility that it could have gotten sunburned? That looks identicle to sunburn that my plants get sometimes outside. The brown center and white right around.

Definitely looks like sunburn. It also looks thirsty judging by the wrinkled look on the leaves. That is one amazing specimen!!! I would pay a fortune for that! I wouldnt worry about repotting it since it would disturb the plant and delay flowering, and cattleyas look incredible when they flower on a huge plant. Try finding a wood slat basket big enough to put the whole thing in, and give its roots lots of mistings. I am super jealous!! That is such a great plant!!

Thanks to all who responded to my dilemma. In response to all the questions you all asked me: the plant is about 15 years old, not soft under wrinkly leaves, probably under watered, probably sunburned since it has been outside most of the time (down here in south florida). How would I know if there's root rot? How can I treat sunburn spots? I'm soaking it in water now. How break the pot to separate it? Thanks!

I will look for a big wood slat basket when I go to the green market tomorrow. When the plant blooms it smells delicious and the blooms are large! But, sorry it's not for sale (LOL)!!!
