Masdevallia and Complex/Bulldog Paphiopedilum questions Male
Default Masdevallia and Complex/Bulldog Paphiopedilum questions

I want to get a Masdevallia orchid but I heard that they need distilled or reverse osmosis water. Is this true? I have hard and soft well water in the country.

I was also looking for a complex/bulldog paph (those are the really round full flowers right?) that has big flowers but fairly compact (like a paph delenatii or paph magical Venus) and yellow. I would love a big yellow paphiopedilum!

I have tested out this notion of Masdevallias needing distilled or RO/DI water, partially because I was curious, and partially because my life has become much more busy.

To my surprise, Masdevallias are quite tolerant of tap water! Los Angeles tap water is not the best btw, and has tons of dissolved minerals in it.

So there you go with the Masdevallia question.

I'll let someone with better luck in Paphiopedilums answer your other question.
