I have a plant that has the growth pattern of a cattleya (Laelia), it had a flower that was almost identicle to a Laelia Anceps except the spike was very short (not even 12") more like 4" spikes and the petals were a tiny bit more frilly than the anceps. No fragrance. Had one or two flowers per spike, lasted about 2-3 weeks, then died back leaving just a small 3" spike. I hope this is enough info for an id. It is almost surely a species but have no idea which one. I bought it from someone who had only species. If i figure out how to upload pictures from my dads camera i will.
Plant is quite large, overflowing an 8" pot. With leaves that are about 6" top to botom. Flower color on photo is not true, it is a brighter pink like the picture on the link
Looks like a hybrid, the lip and overall shape don't seem exactly anceps to me. I'd guess something like Lc. Amoena (L. anceps x C. pumila), though there are some other crosses with similar ancestry. Whatever it is, it's very nice!
Yes, i like it a lot! It is the first "cattleya" type that i ever bloomed myself! I dont think its Lc. Amoena, but yes it very well could be (is) a hybrid with Laelia anceps in it. Thanks for all your help
