Okay, this information is detrimental to my decision in keeping my orchid madness under control! I thought that since the lighting in my growing area is such that I have not even given any thoughts to growing vandas. And now I find out that even just a floor lamp will be sufficient light, I am so tempted to try my hands at growing one!!

Still meaning to get round to posting pictures of the 'brat's flowers opening... still not got time! But had to post some news of various trails I've been following. I found a site with it's parentage:

translated German site

Still no luck on RHS...

But looking up parents, found the Miltonia may be moving to Oncidium.

And here it is....

The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening

Turns out 'Toscane' or 'Toscana' is the clone not the grex...

Roellke Orchideen

The first spike has just finished. Second spike currently just opened, though a couple of flowers blasted. Looks like there may be blasting on the third spike too Oh well, still a nice plant, and happy to have a proper name for it now! Though there's still the Toscane or Toscana question I guess!

As long as you also have a window nearby, the floor lamp works fine. The main thing is to be sure to give them the best light you can all through the summer. Mine blooms shortly after I bring it in for the winter, sometimes with 2 spikes. Then again usually by May.
