I am new to OrchidBoard and I joined to see if maybe anybody in this community can help me out! I tried posting the pictures of my orchid through an attachment however it is saying that it can't upload. Well I have a Vanda Orchid that is growing three new plants out of its side! I have the original stem plus Three New plants coming out. They dont have roots just yet however the one is getting fairly large already (The leaf is almost 6 inches) I hope you guys know what Im talking about. Well my question is if I see roots come out of them should I leave all three. Or maybe just remove one, or remove all??? Any feedback you have would be great and thanks so much for your help! Have a good night and hopefully I can find my way back to see your answers. Thanks again
What you have are keikis (Hawaiian for babies) and it's up to you whether to leave them on and let them grow and eventually be in bloom the same time as the mother plant or wait until there are enough roots to separate them and have a new plant to keep, sell, trade or give away. I personally would leave them until they bloom and decide then.
I have a vanda louilier which is 9 years old thru the years it gave me a basal Kiki and the vanda is now seven plants in one big stem. They bloom magnificently All together once a year and twice if I am lucky...I am awaiting it to spike anytime...why separate them when I can enjoy a full specimen of it all...I am not a seller...I am a collector

I agree! I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to remove any new growths, even pretty big ones. When the plant blooms, you can decide if you want several smaller plants that may take several more yrs. before blooming again, or keeping a nice specimen plant that will bloom much more impressively and probably the following bloom season.
Good Growing,

I had a vanda with two keikis and all three plants would bloom together. It was spectacular. For some reason that I don't even remember, I removed the keikis and put them in small baskets. All three plants are doing well but when they bloom I realize that I liked them much better when they were a single plant. I wish I had never removed them.
By the way, here's a picture of a vanda at RF Orchids in Homestead Florida with many keikis.
