I hang them where ever I can and I also have a light now. I want another light next year for sure. The vandaceous orchid I got for my birthday is small and compact [rynchocentrum] and I'm thinking that I need to continue to get smaller plants, but there is nothing like the huge flowers of the vandas! I need more space.

Paul, I take it you've noticed that no one here has suggested you simply stop getting more orchids, haven't you?
On an orchid forum that's the equivalent of blasphemy !

The EX-dining room shelves are actually 22", I started with 12" shelves and added 10" later. On the right is my PARTIAL bookcase where I added a 10" to the existing 12" for my Phal shelf. Upstairs in my junk/orchid room is where the 24" shelves are. I split an 8' x 4' 3/4" plywood the long way for them and cut one of those in two for the 2 smaller shelves. Ceiling fans are on 24/7 pulling air up towards the ceiling.

Great thread Paul ! funny as! I have 2 windowsills to fill yet but am already wondering why im gonna put more after that!

My thoughts so far are
1) can i get a shelf in each window recess above the windowsill to double space that way?

2) can i fit a table at each windowsill?

3) my kitchen window is the biggest but sink is infront of it so solution is can i do a "Kelo" and hang them in different heights in the window?

4) how will my daughter like wire shelfing infront of her window ( im already getting her used to the idea!)

I think i should have atleast... hmmm... 18mths 2yrs of collecting, bit more if i eek it out and give away ones that are no longer my favorites (last resort tho!) So im planning early! By the time im filled up i will be looking for bigger windows i think!

Kimbubbley, that's exactly how I made my shelves. I attached them to the windowsills and supported them with shelf brackets underneath. You can choose how wide you want them, then double that and put them up !!! I wound up almost doubling the x-dining room shelves before I got smart with the upper room ! I still give away some of the ones I'm tired of but I'm also doing a lot of TRADING !!!

I'm hoping to suddenly have enough money to put in some garden windows. There are 3 on the north side that would work. I guess I should buy lottery tickets.

I was thinking that if you have some room you can do a orchid wall. Get some orchid web from Ray and make a wall of mini's.

If you could work out the lighting and temperatures, that would be great!
