Default I mounted my phal cornucervi. Looks OK?

It was potted into moss for a while and didn't do anything, spikes didn't activate, no new growth. I checked the roots and discovered severe root rot.
Decided to mount it on one of my grapewood pieces. It can be hanged. What do you think?
I hope roots will recover.
Thank you for looking.

Looks pretty good. The one suggestion I have is to put a wad of sphagnum moss around the roots to help keep them moist until they take off on their own.

Nice!

I agree with Kim that some Sphag will help keep the moisture levels up, but I would also advice that you be careful when applying the Sphag. You don't want that rot to get any worse and unfortunately moisture will help rot if there is not enough air-movement around the plant to dry it sufficiently for the plant to be healthy.

Kind of a fine balancing act really, between enough moisture and humidity vs getting rid of the bad completely.

Just a friendly word of caution.

And here's an interesting link that may help

Yes, a little moss like what the rest has said should be good.

Don't worry this phal is especially hardy, it will make it !

Thank you everybody!
It is currently at around 70% humidity and I mist it twice a day. The roots don't get bone dry between mistings, so I didn't want to put moss until at least the rotted ends would dry up a little bit.
I will see as it goes and maybe will put some if it will look dry.
Triffid, thank you for the link.

Those roots look to be in good shape to me and the tips should resprout just above the rot eventually. Perhaps a BIT of sphag could be placed under the plant, but then again, I have a friend who mounts 95% of his collection and doesn't believe in using sphag at all and he gets fantastic root adhesion to his mounts. He does grow in a greenhouse though, so I believe his humidity stays pretty high.
Good Growing,
Tony

It is blooming(2 spikes) inspite of the root rot...you have saved it by mounting it...putting it in a pot might just continue the rot

Thank you guys.
Bud, I got the plant with those two spikes already in place, but they never activated, probably because of roots problem.
My other phals are ok with sphag, but this one seems to not like it. Hope I am saving it now.

yeah i never use a sphag.. another rule... if ever ur buying a phal and use wished to mount on a piece of wood, pick the phal that has a tiny leaves sprouting on top... from my experience... its the time they are about to produce new roots... so... by weeks time.. they are already in stable condition
