Don't wish. It never gets you anything.
The first time I came here was in 1979 on a fishing trip. We flew in with all our gear and food and......well.....fished. I was so infatuated with having monkeys trying to steal our stuff as scarlet macaws squawked in the trees, I just 'knew".
In 1986 I made a return trip for the intnl orchid show and spent four days. I REALLY knew.It was my birthday and the wife ran her mouth. The kid said dessert was on the house. I don't normally eat sweets but I said " coconut ice cream". The waiter kid came back with a look on his face like his dog had died, grinned, ran out the door, RAN, and ten minutes later was back with coconut ice cream.
In 1992 hurricane Andrew ripped Miami apart. I was there. We got the house redone and wifeys car replaced and I opted to take the money from my car and pocket it, buying an old motorcycle instead ( I was only 4 miles from the shop).
Wondering what to do with the rest, I flew down here and bought 8 acres for 13 grand.
In 1997 I returned to "start" working on my land. Made some progress. Built a cabin, moved a caretaker in, bought a couple of cows and a bull.
In 2000 I saw a problem with the govt (USA). In 2003 it was fully confirmed. In 2004 , I realized it was time.
I left, sold the original place here at a good profit and began this project.I'm kinda old now(58) but lived very frugally to make this happen.I was a farmer so bought clothes at the GoodWill for 20 years and drove what most would consider junk vehicles. The only "vacations" I took were to check on things here.
I pulled it off without wishing.
