Purchased some diseased cattelya, hoping to save them?! Female
Question Purchased some diseased cattelya, hoping to save them?!

Okay, I have several orchids, and of course, my phals are doing the best..

I must tell you all, I purchased one in mid Jan, it stayed in bloom through Aug, dropped its flowers in Sept and Is in bloom again... Its crazy, I know..

But anyways- I was at Lowe's the other day and they had a clearance rack with small baby cattleyas for 1$. I could tell as soon as I picked them up why they were on clearance... They smelled so badly of mold it was gross. But I got 2 of them anyways. I soaked the roots in fertilizer water as soon as I got them home and repotted in a more suitable medium. The roots did not look too bad, I have seen worse. However, the leaves have lots a black diseased spots on them.

How do you all think these plants will do with proper care? I am hoping I can save them, as they were only 1$ each.

Any advice is appreciated!

That would depend on what type of black spots they are!

Are the actually diseased or are the black spots fungal areas from being watered and not allowed to dry properly? Can you post a photo?

Until you find out the problem, I hope you are keeping these new plants totally separate from your other plants!
