That's good to know. I think it would leave them open to disease, so I would only do it if I have to

Wow, Bud - it would seem Vandas and I have a lot in common. I, too, get very depressed when the temperature gets below 50! Fortunately that's an exception here in Naples (zone 10a), although it does happen on occassion in January. Would you suggest bringing them in on nights when the temperature drops below 50 or just understand that they'll need extra TLC those days? I normally only pull them in if the temp is expected to dip below 40. (I have over 50 orchids altogether, so hauling them all in isn't a small task!) As for location, they are on a screened in lanai. They get full sun but the screen provides some cover (the equivelent of a 15 pfs sunscreen).

You get depressed? In zone 10? You should try living in our climate. My vandas only go below 50 at night during the summer. They don't sulk then. I do when I'm that cold, though.

invest on an electric heater and put them on both sides of your lanai and a couple of small oscillating electric fans....that will solve your problem with 50 degrees below(I think you only have two weeks of cold in your area and then it starts to warm up again....you are in zone 10.... wow you can grow Vandas outdoors just like in Florida)

*Glen if you own a Vanda farm in Florida or in Asia; you can afford to cut as many roots as you want...its warm and humid and roots will easily grow there....not if youre in a cold and damp Northern grow zone area....you need as many roots as you can to sustain your Vanda plant....besides I dont want to have bacteria or fungi infestation ....in Florida, root cut wound will heal easy, but not in our zone tho....its an open invitation to root rot
