What's the value of a NOID? Male

My Lowes has 50% mark down on orchids ( mostly Phal) that have finished blooming. The cheapest are $7.75. Not knowing even the blossom color, this seems expensive.

Ditto what Dennis said. The least I have paid for an out of bloom Phal. is $9, and I thought that was a bargain given what they sell for in bloom.

If the plant appeals to you, it doesn't matter that it's a no id.

A plant needs a verifiable identification if it is being considered for an award from, let's say the American Orchid Society or if it is going to be hybridized. The id is the plant's pedigree, similar to AKC registrations, birth certificates and geneology.

As it's out of bloom, and with no ID, it's a shot in the dark, but if it's a reasonably large plant in pretty robust health, $7.75 might be a real bargain!

They have 4-5 large leaves. I'm just comparing them to the price of a ID plant which can be used for hybridizing.

I love the surprise of a occ. NOID orchid at a great price that needs a home to save it. If always reward me with beauty.

I would consider it a low risk gamble. You might end up with an easy ID once it flowers. Doubtful though.

What's the value of a NOID-- for me it's sentimental. I have one NOID and one with an ID that I have now forgotten. I love them both, regardless of how much they'd charge me! As long as they are healthy and reward me with pretty flower some day, who cares! Of course, this is just one novice's humble opinion...
