Humble opinion or not, BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. Many NOIDs have given as much, if not more more, enjoyment than the named hybrids.

Come on! Put your hand in your pocket! I would love to get a flowering size plant for that!

My first orchid was a NOID, and had sentimental value. When you learn to grow orchids, you also learn how to kill orchids. Since you are almost certainly going to kill a good percentage of your plants then learn on inexpensive plants. Who knows, you might be able to figure out what it is and it will be a good bargain.

Being a beginner the Dendrobium, NOID at Lowes is a perfect fit for me. They were on clearance for $6.50 in surprisingly good condition and I can experiment with them. I am planning on trying S/H with them. If I screw up my investment isn't substantial.

I was at Lowes again today. They still had these orchids that had stopped blooming. So... I talked to the lady in charge. I asked if they marked them down any more. She gave it to me for $3.29!!! I'll take a pic. It's a phal. and seems to be planted in all sphag. Should I change the medium?

Many plants, orchids especially, come to big box stores planted in sphagnum moss because the transportation weight is so much lighter. I would still unpot the bargain plant to make sure that the roots are in good shape. If you are comfortable growing in sphagnum moss, then by all means repot the plant in fresh moss. Good growing!

I agree, I would have a good looky see at those roots. sure unpot it. And grow in whatever media you already do well with -- Unless you wanted to try something new?!

I hope the roots are nice and healthy, Good luck
