I thought I saw a spike starting in the midst of those 2 roots. What do you do with peppermint oil?

The good thing is that it has a healthy appearance of new roots pushing forth.

I don't know what the peppermint oil mix is but Cythaenopsis used it for fungus gnats !

Darn pesky fungus gnats have returned! Thankfully they're still in very small numbers. I'm a little reticent to douse the potting mix with that peppermint oil mixture, as I don't want to cause any disturbance to the blooming phase. But I may have to resort to it (I had given just two washes of the stuff and the gnats didn't appear for at least several weeks).
How about letting us know, Cythaenopsis ???

Sorry for the confusion, folks. In another thread, someone mentioned using Dr. Bronner's peppermint oil soap as a means of clearing out pests. It's not harmful to the plants but the bugs can't stand it. You dilute some into a container of water. That's what I used.

I don't think there's another spike coming out, as there's already an active one about to bloom. Sometimes newly sprouting roots can look like spikes. Unless, are there rare occasions when a crown sprouts more than one spike?

How awesome! I will get photos if it every quits raining so I can get some decent light. Ohio winters - grey and dismal. The prospect of flowers sure perks things up!

Please post a pic when the last one blooms. I love to see what it looks like. Thanks in advance!

Is it really? If so... uh oh.
I had a mishap. I was pressing down on the moss, checking for sponginess/dryness, when I slipped (I was holding a heavy container of water at the time). My hand moved to regain my balance and unfortunately one finger hit that spike... and *snap*--the tip broke off. I figured "oh well", it's just a root and there's others. I put the tip back on anyway (it has a small "socket"). I have no idea if it will mend itself, or if just keeping the tip on will prevent infection and allow the growth to continue. If it's a spike, I sure hope so.

Anyway, terrific growing you've got there Gage. Florida certainly offers some wonderful growing conditions.
