Does the one on the right look like a spike from here? I know that's a baby root on the left there

I took this photo this evening.

Hmm, looks like a spike to me. Especially since it's coming out under a leaf and it has those familiar grooves. If the tip looks like a mitten, it's a spike.

I'm no expert. Just basing it on what I've seen my phals do.

orchid 623- It is a spike for sure. Roots are not segmented like that.

I was wateromg today and noticed three separate spikes on my phaleonopsis, two on the pathopedium, and one on the black jewel. A couple of these are newer plants so I must be doing something right! The phal was blooming a couple months ago and I did not cut back the flower spikes so there are new flower buds on both spikes and a new one shooting up from the roots. Blooms for Christmas!

I just recieved a baby Vanda which I have in a basket with the roots exposed. Also a baby Sharry Baby with small psuedobulbs. It will be fun to watch them grow and thrive.

In full grips of orchid obsession, was perusing orchids in glass bowls.... Need one of these next? This is so much fun!

These buggers sure have taken off on growth. They continued to shoot forth spikes with buds following closely on their heels. Growth has been rather quick and stretching out of range for easy comparisons, so...

What really impressed me is that my 2nd phalaenopsis has two spikes with buds forming on them, and they look almost identical! Here's a look:

Yes, these are two different spikes!

The two "aerial" roots are continuing their wandering about the air, leaving me to wonder where they'll end up.

And finally, there's my first phalaenopsis that came back from the brink. It's still in the midst of trying to get a new leaf out, to replace the yellowed one you can partially see here:

The good thing is that it has a healthy appearance of new roots pushing forth.

Those two rather small stubby spikes I showed earlier in the thread are now this nice cluster of multiple spikes and buds. I'm looking forward to the show that should be starting in just a few weeks from now.

Darn pesky fungus gnats have returned! Thankfully they're still in very small numbers. I'm a little reticent to douse the potting mix with that peppermint oil mixture, as I don't want to cause any disturbance to the blooming phase. But I may have to resort to it (I had given just two washes of the stuff and the gnats didn't appear for at least several weeks).
