^ Wow! Some serious root action going on there... so much, you can't even see any potting mix. How often do you water those?

aw thanks - honestly - I've started thinking of the Sharry Baby as Sharry Monster - I've had it a bit over two years, it's been potted up twice already, and I don't think the current pot will hold it longer than a year - it's a very robust grower lol - and the noid Miltassia isn't too far behind it.

Glad it's on the rebound - let us know what this mystery nub decides to be

Phals and dens are potted in bark chips. These often comes potted in sphagnum moss or some type of dark sponge material which tends to retain too much moiture. Sometimes it looks obvious that they repotted the plants to keep them from drying while shipping to stores, but most seem to have been growing in it as I see the algea growth and all.
I repot them (only in the spring or summer) all into bark mix. Almost everytime, I see rotten roots. Once I repot them into bark and mist and water often, they send out tons of roots to reestablish themselves.
I water phals and dens almost everyday in the summer, mist daily, and when they are not in active growth, I still keep phals fairly moist, but keep the dens on the dry side, 2-3 times a week watering. They both grow very well and put out lots of roots.
My paphs and oncidium alliances are potted in a combination of bark, coconut husk chips, hydroton, rice hulls, charcoal chips and vermiculite. These are designed for moisture retention because these orchids like to stay moist, but still good air around the roots.
I water these about twice a week now. most are spiking or sending up new shoots. During the summer, they dry out faster so I water it more often.

5.Cymbidium noid, was sick so brought into house, no idea it was a spike. Will be removing once flowers open.
6.My first orchid to set a spike this fall. Surprised as it was my mother's day present this year and didn't think I would spike again til; next at earliest. Probably my biggest phal, sadly it is a noid, but a beauty.
I also have a bellina growing a spike too small and taking forver ti grow and a couple other phals in spike. So lots of flower pics to come.
Hope to see everyone's flowers when they bloom, goodluck growing all

This is a bit pathetic, but if it continues to grow, it will be my first ever re-bloom!
Plant is a noid phal I found thrown out in front of someone's house with the remains of white flowers with a red lip some months ago. It had one sideshoot in the same place got knocked off, then this one's come! So not surprised it's twisted! Currently heading downwards!

As the spike grows longer, it should point upward.
Give it some time and see what happens.

phal. Schilleriana on the left and Golden Harry on the right. I almost wish I had never mounted the phal. The spike is about 3 ft long and it's a pain in the butt to water.
