Saving my orchid collection from whitewash
Default Saving my orchid collection from whitewash

Hi Guys,

Firstly, I would thank all people here, its you guys addicted me to orchids . I grew my collection from 2 chids to 50 chids in 9 months.

My house owner is going to paint the house. I need to save my collection of 30 Phals 5 Vandas 15 dends and few Anthuriums from the paint harm if any.

I am planning to buy the safest paint (odor less paint as advertised) for the orchid area.

Please give me your suggestions, on how to save my chids they are shooting new growths and spikes now.. :|

Thanks,
Kaarthiik

Thanks for the quick reply, Yes paint drys in an hour but the air in room will have some chemical during paint job

I have 2 fans and many peace lily plants (air purifiers) around. Is it safe to get back chids to their painted area in a day after the paint job ?

Thanks again!

If it is an oil based paint it might take a few days for paint odors to leave the room, but if its a latex (water) based paint a day should b e OK.

I don't think that there should be a problem. It's never harmed any of mine.

You might consider buying some very thin plastic sheeting and throwing it over the orchids during and shortly after the painting process.

most paints nowadays are not harmful to mammals nor to plants...lead has been outlawed and many greening of the environment have been on the market...you might be bothered by the paint odor but its not hamful to humans, pets and plants...it will kill mosquitos and cockroaches because the nooks and crannies the hide from will be painted over...
