I just bought a new orchid today, and picked this one out because it has what appears to be a new growth coming out from an old stem. The top leaf is very floppy, though. I've propped it up with a little stick. Does it need more light?
Also, I've read from some sources that I should re-pot it right away, but I'm afraid of upsetting any processes underway here!
It was packed in just sphagnum moss, but the roots mostly look good. I re-potted into a bark/charcoal/pearlite mix mixed with some of the moss. The roots have more "breathing room" now, so to speak. Is it possible to have packed it too loosely?
If the plant will hold itself up, I don't think it can be packed too loosely. I leave spaces in my Phal pots and they seem to grow roots like crazy. I bet it will thank you for the re-pot!
