What is a BUMP? Female
Question What is a BUMP?

I just read someone said "Let me give you a bump" and the member who was 'bumped' replied, Thanks, the bump worked" What does it mean to give someone a bump?

its when your posting is about to be gone to oblivion and forgotten...somebody posts a reply or bumps your posting to the top of the list

Yeap, basically everytime someone posts the message goes back to the top of the list of posts and more people see those at the top.

If a post is not getting replies and is in danger of being lost down the list you can give it a bump to the top just by posting. Personally I do it if I spot one that is over 24 hours and has had no replies and I use the smiley.

Some forums object to this being done and moderators tell you off for doing it. Here though we think it's all just part of helping each other to get answers and the moderators will join in giving bumps if it's needed.

Thanks for clearing that up for me too. It makes a lot of sense, and I'm glad that you can do that here - sometimes I don't have the time to go through all the posts. There's always something to be learned.

I was on a board where some members were greatly concerned with their post count, and would simply write "bump" as a reply to as many posts as they could
Fortunately here it's used as it was meant to be. I too frequently 'bump' posts that are in danger of falling off the *today's posts* when I can't help with the poster's concern or question myself.
