Default Phalli aerial root problem

Some of the aerial root of several of my Phallis have collapsed and some are brown/black. The plants seem to be OK, still bearing blooms - the roots in the media are green and OK. Should I cut off these "bad" roots - use cinnamon as the anti bacterial?

Yes, you can do that. Just dab the tip of the cut with cinnamon. You might want to try to up your humidity.

I've noticed the same during the last 2-3 weeks. Looks like some fungi/bacteria have found the conditions they like.

Since most conditions (temperature, relative humidity, ventilation, watering) are the same as during the summer, the cause must be the lower light and shorter light period (I grow them on windowsill, under natural light).

I guess I should water the Phals less and/or at longer intervals, or at least avoid getting the aerial roots wet and/or increase ventilation.

I wouldn't cut those aerial roots unless they become a source of infection.

I am interested in what more experience growers have to say about this.

As suggested earlier it could be related to the humidity. There's no hurry to cut them off. I have one with aerial roots that I thought were dead and now new roots are growing out of them.

Tucker is right. Do not mess with the roots unless it poses a threat to the plant(like the roots are rotted or infested with bacteria) It takes months to grow mature roots...it is needed to make leaves and give energy to spike blooms...if it browns or shrivels...just moisturize it(spritz it in the morning)

I use Kilol on my Phals. It rains too much here so I switched to growing in baskets with 50% large charcoal and 50% grape-golfball sized red lava rock.
.: KILOL :.
