Question about terms and a specific orchid Female
Default Question about terms and a specific orchid

I have two lovely phal orchids at the moment who are very happy in my window sill. I don't have a ton of room in my house, so I really want to buy my orchids wisely. I am very new to orchids still and have little to NO clue about names and am having trouble finding what I want. So... here are my questions....

I would really like to buy a phal with white and green marble leaves. The color of the flower doesn't matter much to me since I think they are lovely no matter the color. I am pretty sure that I have seen one before, but I haven't been able to find it again or figure out what its name is. So, would anybody know the name of a phalaenopsis that fits that description?

Also, people keep saying that they've purchased a phalaenopsis NOID. What on earth is a "NOID?" I couldn't find it in the glossary anywhere!

Thank you all so much!

Rachel

I have no suggestion to offer for the first question, but NOID is short for No ID (as in no tag).

There is at least one variegated phalaenopsis. I have one that I got from Parkside. They may have more.

Variegated Phals is what you are looking for. I have seen them, but in my limited experience they are very expensive. Im sure there are more out there, but I have not bothered to look for them.

I know of three variegated Phals, P. philippinensis, P. lindenii, and P. stuartiana. You can buy them from Paramount Orchids at a reasonable price. Their website is: www. paramountorchids.com.

Perhaps you may be interested in Phal Naples Nights. I bought one through EFG Orchids although you can find it at elsewhere. Here's a link to a pic: Phal. Naples nights x (p. petite rose x p. glad melinda): efg orchids

I think schilleriana has mottled leaves as well. Not green and white though.
