Confused about orchid classification
Default Confused about orchid classification

I still consider myself very new to orchids, although I have had my orchids for a while now. My question is where certain classifications of orchids fit, so I can hopefully find care sheets. I chose the orchids that I bought based on the look of the flowers on the website, not on what is most likely to grow and flourish in my area, and now I am struggling to know if I am even treating them properly.

Here are the ones I am confused about. Any help would be great.

Bepi - Brassoepidendrum. Seems like both parts of this are cattleya, so grow like a cattleya?

Arpophyllum - Not finding much info on these.

Angcm. - Angraecum. not sure where these belong

Gram. - Grammatophyllum. again not sure where to put these

Psh. - not even sure what this stands for

I think the rest i can at least figure where they belong, although it seems that dendrobiums have a few different varieties? and those grow differently? I am sure i can find info on this if I look hard enough, but if someone knows an easy way for me to tell where mine belong. I was told in another thread that they are in the Latouria section, but how would I know by looking at them, or is that how to tell?

I started a thread that lists the individual plants that I have, here is a link if anyone wants to see.

Sorry for the long post and thanks all in advance for the help

Put this in your bookmarks: Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia

It's Jay Pfahl's Internet orchidspecies website; there you can look up the species and get an idea of the native conditions.

I'd say your guess about the brassoepidendron being very cattleya-like is right on.

"Psh" is the abbreviation for prosthechea.
