Smitha,

If you are determined to attempt to rescue this plant, before you try any media method, you need to rid the plant of the mealy bug infestation. The greatest media in the world will not bring back a badly, bug infested plant. Read the forum section on Pests and Diseases for ways to end your mealy bug problem.

Smitha,

I would not waste my time trying to revive this plant unless it had some sentimental value or you would like some learning value on techniques to rescue orchids.
In theory, you can try all these things and by some small miracle they may work.
You will invest lots of time and money buying s/h, superthrive and whatever else and most likely it will die.
The mealy infestation has drained the plant of energy.
The black rot on the plant is probably a secondary infection...pythium or some such problem.
Looking at the plant, I personally don't see a high likelihood of success.

I think it is important you know this so you don't get discouraged that you may have done something wrong when your plant dies.
You could not help the mealy infection and when a plant is weak, other things attack it like bacteria and fungus.

Imho, I would invest my money in replacing the plant and my time in learning the best culture to provide for it.

PS. I would also check the rest of my collection for mealy bugs and follow through with treating the currently "happy plants" for the infestation before they look like this one....that would be the "learning point" for me.
