Mounting epis and dens

I ordered seedling sized epidendrum paniculatum and dendrobium spectabile. THey are in 2 inch pots and the plants are are about 2-3-4 inches tall. decent root structure on both plants.

I want to know if an amateur (like me) could mount them onto a board

will both of these plants thrive on a board or would they be better off in the ground.
