Help with my Vanda Cindy Banks
"The" Cindy Banks this orchid was named for was a friend of mine. She took my family and me to visit her son Bill's orchid greenhouses one day 12+ years ago. Bill gave me a Cindy Banks orchid. I did not know until some research today that it was a Vanda. I water it occasionally and fertilize it several times a year. But I know next to nothing about it. It has hung in the tree outside the front of my house since I brought it home with the exception of days when the temperature drops below 50. It blooms all year round. Usually 5 blooms at a time and the fragrance is heavenly. My problem is, as it blooms the "leaves" (pardon my ignorance on what to call them) fall off. I now have a "stalk" about 12-15" long with growth at the top. It has put out "roots" from the top and I think you can cut the stalk. She has grown to the wooden basket she sits in. I am so afraid I will lose her. I talked to someone yesterday at a plant sale who told me my plant was sick and probably dying. He rather scolded me for not taking better care of it. He said it needed water 3 or more times a week. I have never watered it that much and I can't think it would have lived this long if I truly had abused it. Can someone help me? I need genuine help not criticism.
