Dendrobium yellow Chinsai or Brassavola Perrinii Female
Default Dendrobium yellow Chinsai or Brassavola Perrinii

I am a beginner and I love dendrobiums, Brassavolas, Renantheras so far.

I would like to get Dendrobium yellow Chinsai. Would this one be ok for me ? I plant to mount it onto a saucer or wood and let it hang under my t5 lights where my hibiscus are.

My second choice is Brassalova perrinii which of the two would be good for a beginner ? I am making a list of Terrarium orchids, but these I won't be putting in there not unless they would do well.

Thanks again

Go with the Dendrobium. I think it does require a winter rest. It looses it's leaves before it blooms too. Good luck.

If your just starting, phals are the easiest to grow. Plus, they love to be mounted! I have mine mounted to cork. Repot.com or firstrays.com are really good places for cork.

Don't know much about Brassavola perrinii, but Den. Yellow Chinsai is very nice and pretty easy. I grow mine in a bright windowsill so it should do fine under lights. Give it lots of water and fertilizer while it's actively growing and keep it much drier (water enough to keep the canes from shriveling) with no fertilizer in the winter. Cooler weather initiates blooming, mine buds reliably after about a month of nights in the low 60s F. Smells nice, too.
