My Dendrobiums have shriveled leaves on its new shoot Male
Default My Dendrobiums have shriveled leaves on its new shoot

Hey there! I got a dendrobium (i don't know which species it is because it was a gift from my partner's mom, and it didnt have any tag on it when i received it). But from my research, i think it's a dendrobium phalaenopsis. It has a really dark purple flowers (when it was in bloom). I got it in April and since then, one long new stalk has grown with multiple leaves on it. I water it at least once a week and i put it underneath a faucet by the sink and let the water run through it for several minutes to make sure it absorbs water well enough. It does not get direct sunlight as it sits by southern window on a table and i made sure that it doesnt get the hot afternoon sun. I've had trouble with the new leaves on the new stalk. Somehow, it seems slightly wilty (unlike the other leaves on the original stalk). How can i fix this issue? Any suggestions? Idk if i can post this too, but how do i get it to bloom again as well?

Hello and welcome to the OB!
Can you post a picture of your den and have you checked the roots lately? The wilted leaves on a new cane could be due to root loss.

No, i have not checked the roots recently. What happened was when i first got it, I repot it into an orchid pot. After several months, it grew a new shoot. I left it by my window ( a south facing window). My theory is that the glass from the window emitted too much heat and caused the leaves to be like an accordion. I watered it and it looked fine. After I went on a 2 week vacation, I noticed that the leaves looked limp, so I watered it good. I think it looked better but I'm not too sure. I will post a picture when I get a chance.

Thanks! I just moved all my orchids to my backyard area. It's a shady area and I felt like they needed to be outside to enjoy the nature! Maybe I was overthinking it. I did read somewhere that says that dendrobium should stand erect by itself without much staking, but i'm not too sure.
